Geocache Description:

GZ is no longer Five, as one if the trees has been cut down.

NOTE- This cartridge has a resolution of 1 degree, which means that the away further the readings are taken, the more innaccurate the GZ area will be, at a rate of 30 Metres per mile from GZ, (ie at 10 miles, the resolution is 300 Metres). So to find this cache, 2 long distance readings should find the rough area, and 2 readings from this rough area should give a close enough GZ to find the cache.

This cache is the first of a new type of Reverse Wherigo caches, where the cache is found by obtaining bearings from any location of your choice, and triangulating the cache's GZ. Many thanks to day1976 for making the cartridge available to everyone.

Firstly you will need to download a Wherigo player from your app store, or use a suitable GPS unit with an inbuilt player. Then you will need to download the following cartridge into the player, which should happen automatically with a prompt as to which app to open the download with.

At the published coordinates is a lot of information, and from this, the two Wherigo access codes can be derived, which are a random string of letters and numbers.

First code-

South Easterly direction, top plate 7th letter.

South Easterly direction, top plate 2nd letter.

Great Missenden x 2.

Princes Risborough - Ellesborough.

North Easterly direction, bottom brown plate, the letter stands for what word? 3rd letter.

Second code-

South Westerly direction, top plate 10th letter.

South Easterly direction, second plate down, 12th letter.

North Easterly direction, H.G.V. advisory route, 26th letter.

Blue Weight Limit.... 3rd number.

North Easterly direction, H.G.V. advisory route, 19th letter.

Checksum - This conversion into numbers is ONLY for the checksum calculation. Use the raw characters above for the cartridge codes.

Where A=1 and Z=6, by dropping the leading digit, the checksums of the codes are  23 and 8 respectively.

Start up the player, and find and load the cartridge. > NewGame > Find a Geocache > Answer > Enter First Code > xxxxx > Answer > Enter Second Code > xxxxx > Answer > The bearing to this Geocache is xxx degrees. This bearing is from where you are standing. It is recommended the bearing is taken outdoors, and under a clear sky, preferably not when cloudy. It is now up to you how many times you relocate and obtain different bearings so as to triangulate the cache. The ultimate goal would be to find the cache with just one bearing reading, but for most, it would need a minimum of two bearings. Bearings are with respect to True North, so If using an OS map, allowances will have to be made, as Grid North, Magnetic North, and True North are all different!

When you find the cache container, you will need a tool to open it, there are 2, one is a spare in case of problems locating the main one. Both can be found a short walk away in opposite directions, they are attached magnetically to obvious hosts.

Note the D & T ratings, and attributes, this is not a 5 mimute cache and dash!

As this is a new type of Reverse Wherigo, and I can't find any others in a search to compare with, it's somewhat experimental, so D&T ratings may change depending on how everyone gets on. Double check everything at stage 1 using the checksums, as one tiny error is going to make a huge difference. If you find any of the questions confusing or ambiguous, please say, and I will update!

Update- D rating raised from 3.5 to 4. As the cartridge produces whole number degrees, the triangulation is not accurate from long distances especially if the 2 readings are taken close together producing an acute angle at intersection, so don't be disheartened by a GZ that seems wrong, go near there and take more readings. unlike the other reverse Wherigo, final coodinates are not issued when within 20 metres of the cache, but with this one you definately will not need them when within 20M!

So far the devices used are- GeoohGo built in Wherigo player on android, and WhereYouGo app on android works perfectly. Garmin Oregon 450T GPS works, but there is a bug that forces you to restart the unit to obtain a new bearing every time. Other unknown GPS, same issue.
