This is the first of a series of geocaches to celebrate Eagle projects that have been placed in the Kreher Preserve and Nature Center and in the city of Auburn over the years. This one is The CedarArchways, built by Mr Ben Fowler of Troop 371 in September 2001.
Less than 6% of all who join Scouts BSA earned the coveted rank of Eagle Scout. To earn that rank, a Scout has to complete 21 Merit badges, 13 of which are required, hold a position of leadership within thier Troop and complete a community service project. The Path to Eagle is not easy, but the rewards are worth the effort.
One of the Merit Badges a Scout can earn is the Geocaching Merit Badge. This series of caches will help scouts earn merit badges and learn about the natural world that is in thier own back yard.
The Kreher Preserve & Nature Center offers outdoor recreation, nature education, and many ways to just relax and enjoy the wilderness. This first-class discovery and nature center is an outreach program of the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences and is open to the public every day from sunrise to sunset. Kreher offers interesting environmental education programs throughout the year for all ages and it serves as the outdoor classroom for the university and area schools. With more than six miles of well-groomed trails, visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk or vigorous hike to the pond, butterfly garden, waterfall, or any of the many features hidden in the forest.
