Το Star Wars είναι ένα αμερικανικό επικό franchise διαστημικής όπερας που δημιουργήθηκε από τον George Lucas, το οποίο ξεκίνησε με την επώνυμη ταινία του 1977 και γρήγορα έγινε παγκόσμιο φαινόμενο της ποπ κουλτούρας. Το franchise έχει επεκταθεί σε διάφορες ταινίες και άλλα μέσα, συμπεριλαμβανομένων τηλεοπτικών σειρών, βιντεοπαιχνιδιών, μυθιστορημάτων, κόμικς, θεματικών πάρκων και θεματικών περιοχών, που περιλαμβάνει ένα παντού πλασματικό σύμπαν. Το 2020, η συνολική αξία του εκτιμήθηκε σε 70 δισεκατομμύρια δολάρια ΗΠΑ και αυτή τη στιγμή είναι το πέμπτο franchise πολυμέσων με τα υψηλότερα έσοδα!

Τα σενάρια της ταινίας αναφέρονται σε αυτό το εναρκτήριο θέμα ως "πολεμικά τύμπανα". Συντέθηκε από τον Τζον Ουίλιαμς και ερμήνευσε η Συμφωνική Ορχήστρα του Λονδίνου. Star Wars is an American epic space opera media franchise created by George Lucas, which began with the eponymous 1977 film and quickly became a worldwide pop-culture phenomenon. The franchise has been expanded into various films and other media, including television series, video games, novels, comic books, theme park attractions, and themed areas, comprising an all-encompassing fictional universe. In 2020, its total value was estimated at US$70 billion, and it is currently the fifth-highest-grossing media franchise of all time!
The original film (Star Wars), retroactively subtitled Episode IV: A New Hope (1977), was followed by the sequels:
Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and
Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983), forming the original Star Wars trilogy.
Lucas later returned to filmmaking to direct a prequel trilogy, consisting of:
Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999),
Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002), and
Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005).
In 2012, Lucas sold his production company to Disney, relinquishing his ownership of the franchise.
The subsequently produced sequel trilogy consists of:

All nine films of the 'Skywalker saga' were nominated for Academy Awards with wins going to the first two releases. Together with the theatrical live action spin-off films Rogue One (2016) and Solo (2018), the combined box office revenue of the films equated to over US$10 billion and is currently the second-highest-grossing film franchise of all time.
The Star Wars opening crawl is a signature device of the opening sequences of every numbered film of the Star Wars series. Within a black sky background featuring a smattering of stars, the crawl is preceded both by the opening static blue text, "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...." and by the Star Wars logo which recedes toward a central point on the screen before disappearing. The crawl text, which describes the backstory and context of the film, then recedes toward a higher point in relation to the screen and with an apparent effect of disappearing in the distance. The visuals are accompanied by the "Star Wars Main Title". The "Star Wars Main Title" is the theme played at the beginning of every theatrically released Star Wars film so far and almost every other piece of Star Wars media (video games, TV series, etc.). The film scripts refer to this opening theme as "war drums." It was composed by John Williams and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. It quickly became one of the most recognizable theatrical motifs in the history of film.
