This is the third geocache in a series of caches that direct players on a tour of the Nashwaak Watershed, a beautiful and environmentally significant area that stretches from Nashwaak Lake in central New Brunswick all the way to the mouth of the Nashwaak River in Fredericton, where it all flows into the Wolastoq/St. John River.
A "watershed" is the term used to refer to all of the land that drains into one area or body of water. The Nashwaak Watershed encompasses all of the land in which rivers, streams, brooks, ponds, lakes, wetlands, meltwater, groundwater and runoff drain into the Nashwaak River. As you may have noticed, the Nashwaak River emptys into the Wolastoq/Saint John River, meaning that it is also part of a bigger watershed, the Saint John River Watershed!
The cache is located on one of the many islands in the Naswaak River in Fredericton. Great for a quiet paddle in a kayak or canoe: you can access the cache site from the water, there is bank nearby where you can come ashore. Be aware that the riverbank may be eroded and very steep.
There is a ford over the creek at N45 57.838 W066 36.631, with rocks to cross. Depending on the level of the water, you may be able to avoid getting wet. Be aware that water will be high in the spring and after a heavy rain, and during these times it's likely a dry crossing will be impossible.
You are looking for a lock-&-lock painted black. Cache is starting out with a logbook and pencils. Congratulations to ranger170 for FTF!
This area is part of the Nashwaak Watershed Association's floodplain forest restoration efforts, there are young trees in the fields. Please treat the area with respect, and remember to CITO!
