Anyone for Bowls Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

nznomad: After the original hide location was vandalised and destroyed a year or so ago, we have tried a few other nearby locations, but it keeps being muggled. We are not particulalry happy with the location we had to resort to to avoid the continuous muggling, so we have decided to call it a day on this one and archive the cache. We hope you still enjoy our other hides around the common.

Geocache Description:

The Recreation Ground

Sir Joseph Hood was Deputy Chairman of the British and American Tobacco Company, MP for Wimbledon and also served as Mayor of Wimbledon. In 1921, he donated £11,000 to fund the creation of this recreation cround which was later renamed in his honour. He was knighted by King George V in 1922, and on 1st May 1926 he delivered the first bowl on the opening of the bowling green near to this cache location.

A quick loop around the rec ground is a nice stroll to compliment our nearby "Cannon HIll Wander" series, and a good excuse to grab an extra few caches.
