Enter, if you dare, into the haunted forest of the Witch of Windsor -- right here at Mercer County Park. Long before this was a park and long before this area had more than a handful of families inhabiting the area, lived the Witch of Windsor. Legend has it that she lived alone in a small, squalid hovel deep in the woods. Locals knew not to venture too far from the cleared land into the forest...but that didn’t stop some unlucky local teens on occasion from trying to tempt fate -- and it rarely ended well. The few that had managed to make it out all told of similar incidents: as they would cautiously, and a bit fearfully, enter the darkened forest, they would suddenly feel a cold chill about them.
This was the warning that the Witch of Windsor was near -- or sometimes she’d suddenly appear, seemingly out of nowhere, right in front of them. Sometimes she’d appear, at first, pleasant looking and friendly, drawing them closer with a non-threatening smile and agreeable demeanor. When they got close enough to her, and often TOO close to escape, she’d suddenly transform into the most hideous, monstrous, evil witch, reaching out to cast her spell with just the touch of her finger. Once you were in arms reach, it was too late. Some say she transformed her victims into slithering, 2 headed snakes; misshapen, deformed tree stumps; unsightly bullfrogs and other ghastly, often distorted creatures, making ever finding the missing kids impossible.
Eventually, as more locals went missing, without even a clue as to what became of them, a large group of townspeople vowed to end this witch’s spell and evil deeds altogether -- if at all possible. Armed with sticks, axes, knives They converged on the forest, determined, yet naturally a bit fearful, to exact revenge and put an end to her terror…. Some say they succeeded and prevented her from casting any more evil spells. I wouldn’t be so sure, tell us what you think after you find the cache...
