Middlesbrough were one of the founding teams of the Premier League when it began in 1992, ands was also one of the first to be relegated from it, at the end of the first season.
The club have had some great players in the past, with the likes of Alf Common (the first £1000 transfer), George Camsell (on his debut season scored 59 goals, including 9 hat-tricks, and went on to be top scorer for 10 seasons in a row),Wilf Mannion, George Hardwick, and, of course, Brian Clough (204 goals in 222 games).
The club's only major trophy has been the League Cup, which they lifted in 2004.
