Common Grackle
Well, the grackle is not actually a shorebird, but a few of the caches on this trail are named after birds we saw when we were hiding the caches. The Common Grackle can sometimes be mistaken for a crow/raven/blackbird, but can be distinguished from them by its iridescent neck and head. These birds usually nest in treetops and often in large colonies. Their diet consists of almost anything (including garbage) and they cause more damage to corn crops than crows. So scarecrows would be more appropriately named scaregrackles.
Optional: In your log let us know if you were able to identify this bird while searching for the cache.
