UK Mega 2021: Lincolnshire
The Pick of the Litter

A CITO to tidy-up Lincoln's beautiful West Common. This event is a partnership between the Lincolnshire Mega and the City of Lincoln Council, which has kindly given its permission for this event.
Where: The West Common, Lincoln. Please park at the former Grandstand on Saxilby Road (A57) using the waypoint provided. Please cross the road carefully and assemble at the published coordinates. Entry to the common from this location is via a narrow entrance/stile- see 'Trailhead' waypoint. Please share lifts to save space at the car park.
When: 2pm, Friday 6th August. The event will finish at 3.30pm. A full safety briefing will take place at the start of the event. Please try to be there for that!
Why: Geocachers are renowned the world over for their commitment to keeping clean, safe and tidy the environment in which we play- our 'gameboard'. This event has been organised to do exactly that. It is just as important to take away dog waste and dispose of it safely as it is to avoid littering and tidy up after ourselves and others.
Who: Anyone can attend this event but children should be accompanied. The Common is a undulating and uneven surface and will provde difficult for pushchairs, buggies and wheelchairs.
Can I bring my dog? Yes dogs are very welcome to join us on West Common. We may even have a treat for the first 10 dogs to ask nicely.
Does my dog need to be on a lead? Dogs do not need to be on a lead on the Common. However, only you know your dog, how resposive it is, how it behaves around children and other dogs etc. There are horses grazing on the common which may attract the interest of your dog. Please bring a lead and be prepared to use it. You are responsible for your dog at all times!
What do I need: Bring gloves, litter-pickers (if you have one) dog poo bags (if you bring your dog) and sturdy shoes.
What is provided? We will provide bin bags, hand gel.
What should I collect? Any litter that you feel comfortable removing. If you see anything sharp such as a needle or blade, or come across a fly-tipped area, please do not touch it but alert a member of the Mega team. If you're not sure, just ask.
What do I do with the litter I collect? Using the bag provided, bring any litter you have collected to the starting point which will be staffed throughout the event. All bags left there will be disposed of by the Mega team
What facilities are there at the Common? Pretty much none whatsoever! No toilets, no refreshments and no shelter. Please come prepared!

The West Common
There are several areas of common land in and around the city of Lincoln, the West and South commons being the two largest. The West Common affords fabulous views of the city including the Cathedral, Castle, Westgate water tower and Ellis' Mill. The West Common, sometimes known as the Carholm, was used as an airfield during WW1 and used to include a racecourse which closed in1964 (although point-to-point races were still held here until the 1990s). It is widely used by the people of Lincoln and its surroundings for sports, recreation, dog-walking, kite flying, golf, tennis, football and for grazing and excercising horses.
