Welcome tour: Our Forests
Welcome to the dense and wet forest of pine trees!, which as well, have been exploited for millennial to extract the delicious and highly priced pine nuts. The nuts are traditionally used in the production of the local delicacy Panellets, eaten in autumn; but are also frequent ingredients in Coca de vidre, Amanida d’espinacs, Rostit de Nadal and dishes with Bacallà o Pollastre. The trees are characterized by thin and long leaves called needles, and by a transparent substance that strongly adheres to any surface it touches. It is said that when spread over the skin, it leaves it soft and nice resembling the skin of a new-born baby. For this reason, anthropologists think it may have been used in the past to treat skin diseases or avoid ageing, but more often it is to see it attached to the clothes of local villagers as a sign of identity.
