Pirates actually didn't have others walk the plank. There are more interesting ways of punishment. Sweating is being stripped and prodded with sharp objects and made to dance while the ship's fiddler plays a jaunty jig. You could be marooned. Edward Low made his adversaries eat their own ears with salt and pepper.
