If we ask you to mention a local animal, you will probably come up with a boar. But although boars are around and easy to see even on daylight, they are not the most common species: snails are. The creepy, tinny, slugging creatures most people dislike. Not so the locals, however, for with snails our ancestors have been sustaining themselves and their families since far earlier than our imagination can think of. They can be canned, eaten in soups, or accompanied by a tomato sauce that brings all the taste. They also make, and made over the centuries, the ideal pet, because they do not drop hair, scratch or bite you (or your furniture) while playing, or leave big smelling dungs around the house. If you have never thought of adopting one, this may be the time to start considering it. They take very little space, are cheap to maintain and seldom require a vet.
