The United States Postal Service has its roots in the original 13 colonies, with its inception nearly 250 years ago. Ben Franklin was appointed the first American Postmaster General; I've always found him quite inspirational. "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." Smart man. Ok, so he more than likely didn't say that, or if he did, it was likely a reference to wine instead. Either way, I have it on a pint glass from the Franklin Institute, and I like it. :-P
Those days are long gone, and, while snail mail still exists, electronic mail, or email, is much more prevalent and certainly operates at a much higher volume. Today's kids may never know the excitement, but I'm sure there are still quite a number of us that remember waiting through the dial-up process, listening to the ramblings of a modem, signing onto AOL and hearing "You've got mail!"
While these electronic letters are commonplace in today's society, they are a far cry from the first digital transmission. That happened many moons ago. Your task, should you accept, is to reminisce back to simpler times, code up a transmission, and then perhaps port it to that new-fangled satellite positioning system to find your prize. Let's hope you have a good fist. Better yet, let's hope I don't have a poor fist, or this is all for naught.
