The Series

Do you love mystery caches?  Do you love D/T (Difficulty/Terrain) ratings?  if so, we have a GREAT series for you!!!

The Jackson County Agritourism Geo-Trail 81 series (JCAT-81) has been placed for YOU! We do have to fess up that the series isn’t actually in Jackson County, but it’s a stone’s throw away and an awesome set of caches.  If you complete all 81, you will have completed an entire D/T grid. Total fizzy awesomeness!

The majority of the caches are hidden in Sandy Creek Park.  There is an entrance fee of $2 per person to enter.  Current park hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, closed on Mondays. (Note: Hours can change-- please check with the park before making your trip plans)

The caches are hidden in a variety of containers and styles.  The puzzles will help build your puzzle-solving skills.  Be on the lookout for some JCAT-81 Puzzle-Solving events where we will help you solve some of the tougher ones.

This series is a collaborative effort of “The Puzzle Posse”!  The Puzzle Posse consists of Bragger407, GeoMonkeyTiger!, LaFavorite Cacher, and poeanne.

This Cache

This cache is rated a 4.5/4.0.  The puzzle will be challenging.  The physical find won't be too hard, but it will be a pretty good hike to get there.  The cache is a small lock and lock and has room for trackables or SWAG.  Be sure to bring water, bug spray, and possibly a snack!  Note that you may see some fences marking private property.  Please respect the fence lines as the cache is on the park side of the fences...

The cache is NOT at the posted coordinates.

Dinner was over and Farmer MacDonald had settled into his favorite rocking chair on the front porch. His wife sat down beside him.

“Know what we need,” she said. “A turnip patch.”

“And why do we need a turnip patch?” asked Farmer MacDonald.

“Well, lots of our vegetable stand customers asked for turnips and turnip greens last year and we didn’t have any.”

“Where would you put this patch?”

“Let me think about it for a few minutes.”

Everything on the porch got quiet as both were engaged in their own thoughts. Farmer MacDonald needed a break, so he made up a song and started singing...

Old MacDonald had a farm.
E-I-E-I-O.
And on his farm he had a GAZELLE.
E-I-E-I-O.
With a whinny, whinny here and a whinny, whinny there.
Here a whinny, there a whinny, everywhere a whinny, whinny.
Old MacDonald had a farm.
E-I-E-I-O.

Old Mac Donald had a farm.
E-I-E-I-O.
And on his farm he had a XERUS.
E-I-E-I-O.
With a bi-joo bi-joo here and a bi-joo,bi-joo there.
Here a bi-joo, there a bi-joo, everywhere a bi-joo bi-joo.
Old Mac Donald had a farm.
E-I-E-I-O.

Old MacDonald had a farm.
E-I-E-I-O.
And on his farm he had a VOLE.
E-I-E-I-O.
With a chirp, chirp here and a chirp, chirp there.
Here a chirp, there a chirp, everywhere a chirp, chirp.
Old Mac Donald had a farm.
E-I-E-I-O.

Old MacDonald had a farm.
E-I-E-I-O.
And on his farm he had a DUCK.
E-I-E-I-O.
With a quack, quack here and a quack, quack there.
Here a quack, there a quack, everywhere a quack, quack.
Old Mac Donald had a farm.
E-I-E-I-O.

After these four verses, he stopped singing and all was silent again. While his wife had listened to him sing, she had been scribbling on a piece of paper. She handed the paper to Farmer MacDonald and said, “Listening to your song and to all the amazing animal sounds gave me an idea.  Here is a fairly good playce for the turnip patch.”

Old MacDonald looked at the scribblings on the paper. This is what he saw.

Assume N 34 and W 083 since that covers our entire farm. Otherwise:

Old MacDonald stared at the paper for just a few minutes. “Yep. We can do this and this is a good place for the turnip patch. I’ll have the spot ready for planting by Friday noon.”

His wife stood up, walked over and kissed him right on top of his head and said, “I knew that you could make this work!” Then she went inside.

Old MacDonald started humming his favorite song again.

Can you see where he is going to put the turnip patch???
