It was Father’s Day and I had the honor of providing food and doing the cooking for my children out on my deck. While flipping burgers, my son, SohWhardego, and I had this conversation.
SohWhardego: Hey Pops! What’s a centroid?
Sludge_Shoveler: A centroid is a geometric calculation of the average of any number of points. Like the center of gravity.
SohWhardego: That reminds me, I was at the center of the grassy area in front of the MSU Observatory looking at the moon through this astronomer’s telescope. It was incredible.
Sludge_Shoveler: You know what’s incredible? The Mosaic Car by Nancy O in 2004 in front of Delphi Art Supply. Great sculpture!
SohWhardego: You wanna see a great sculpture? Go to the Sundial in East Lawn Cemetery.
Sludge_Shoveler: Yeah, that’s good but what about the Soldiers in Mason cut outa wood in honor of those who served?
SohWhardego: I saw those when I was getting a geocache there.
Sludge_Shoveler: Do you remember your first geocache?
SohWhardego: GC43ANC! I remember it well.
Sludge_Shoveler: Well? You don’t do anything well. The best you do is adequate.
SohWhardego: Adequate? You think you were an adequate father? You were terrible!
Sludge_Shoveler: Terrible? You know what’s terrible? They moved the Butterfly Bench into the Children’s Garden at MSU.
SohWhardego: MSU? I’ve heard of it. I think I saw a plaque about it on the side of Beaumont Tower.
Sludge_Shoveler: Speaking of plaques. There is one in Okemos that tells about Chief Okemos and the Village of Okemos.
SohWhardego: Boring!!!!!!
Sludge_Shoveler: Say, turn on the radio. I like WMHHV.
SohWhardego: I can’t find that station.
Sludge_Shoveler: Right. You couldn’t even find the sign in Foote-Rockwell Cemetery listing the souls buried there.
SohWhardego: I’m tired of arguing. Peace?
Sludge_Shoveler: Sure. Have you seen the Peace Pole at Williamston Methodist Church?
SohWhardego: No, but I saw one at Ingham County Health Department at Cedar & Jolly.
Sludge_Shoveler: Here, take over the burger flipping. I gotta go calculate a centroid.
