People grow up in a house full of family, pets, furniture, toys, mementos, stuff, etc. They grow up and move away but there is something that makes one want to go back to see one's childhood home. The area has changed. The residents have changed. Sometimes the color has changed along with an addition or other alteration. Trees are grown or cut down. The landscaping is different. Now there is no swing in the back yard or maybe there is a new one back there. But it has changed. A frequent comment when people go back to their childhood home is that the porch looks small or the yard looks small.
So take a trip to the House by the side of the road. Does it bring back memories? Does it seem small? Enjoy the visit.
The residents of the back house may be around but they don’t mind your visit to the front house. They may be watching you. And of course the neighbors are aware that you may stop by.
You may pull off the road between the driveways and walk to the cache. Beware of the cars that pass by and keep kids on the grass.
