Geocache Description:

"I could conceive of no geological process of erosion to make this topography except huge violent rivers of glacial meltwater." ~ J Harlen Bretz

Learn about the events that shaped our region's geology while you play!  Park explorers will see geological features with rocks in different elements for kids to climb on and around as they learn the geology of eastern Washington and why it is so special to our region.

The listed corrdinates will take you one of nine educational interpretive signs about the many geological features on display in this park.

In order to claim this EarthCache you will need to answer the questions listed below. The first two questions can be answered from the listed coordinates. On-site observations of the samples for question #4 are nearby and there are several educational interpretive signs to help guide you to the needed answer.

1) What is rhythmite?

2) What is varve?

3) Why are rhythmite and varve important for the Ice Age Floods?

4) There are several examples of basalt at this park (more than two). Please describe two different examples and analyze why are they different.

Please do not post any pictures that could include answers to the above questions. Such logs could be deleted.
