Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Maitland Public Library.

This year we are celebrating 125 years of being at the heart of our community.

Our original collection of 360 books was housed in the living room of a local teacher before spending some time in a store front on nearby Horatio Avenue. Upon reaching an agreement with the city, a new building was erected to house the growing collection. After its construction, this building went through three upgrades to eventually become the facility you see before you. The current collection includes over 96,000 items ranging from early reader books to advanced novels. We even have DVDS, S.T.E.M kits, and baking pans for borrow!

Today, you will need to follow six clues to solve for the final cache location inside the building. You will not need to interact with the library staff, though they are aware of this hide. Because the final location is inside the building, it will only be accessible during the following times*:

Monday-Thursday 10am - 9pm
Friday & Saturday 10am - 6pm
Sunday 1pm - 6pm

*Please note that the library will be closed for major holidays and inclimate weather.

You are solving for ABC.DEF

At your starting coordinates, you can see the original entrance to the "old building". It is no longer in use today, but doesn’t it still look so welcoming? How many words are on the building above the steps? Subtract one from this number to get E. (You shouldn’t need to enter the gate to gather this information.)

From here, please proceed around the corner to the current entrance that faces Ventris Avenue. Pass through the gates.

Above the door is a plaque placed to commemorate 100 years of library service to the community. What year was this plaque placed? The third number in that year will be A.

As you enter through the door, and pass through the lobby, you will see two desks on your left. On your right are rows of books. What color is the column by the third row? The number of letters in that color's name is C.

Proceed past the bank of public computers and turn left to go through the gallery hall. Here, we showcase artwork by local artists. In this space, you will also find our collection of movies that can be borrowed. Through the windows you will see a courtyard with seats and umbrellas for a shaded place to read. How many windows are there in the gallery hall? Count the door, too. This total will be your B.

Turn the corner to continue into the old wing. This is our reading room. Please use inside voices in this space. There may be people here reading or studying.

The stacks on your right are filled with fiction books for more advanced readers. Something else is hiding there, too. Find the mirror and count the faces. How many have their eyes open? The second digit in that total will be F.

On the plaque above the fireplace is a 4-digit number. The second digit will be D.

Once you have deciphered the clues you will have all of the information you need to find the cache. The HISTORY of this library holds so many treasures. The one you seek can be found at the location designated by the number you solved.

Thank you for spending time here, today. In your log, please tell us how many people were in your group. We'd also love to know about your favorite books or characters. Please feel free to post pictures of your adventure in your log, but be careful not to share any spoilers.

This cache has been placed with permission from the library director, Stacie Larson.
