MOUNTAIN VIEW
Parish Church located in Church Square, Rathfriland. It was built 1818, replacing an older parish church in Drumgath townland, which was built in 1730. There is a bench mark located on the north wall of the church.

Bench marks were historically used to record the height above sea level of a location as surveyed against the Mean Sea Level data (taken at Clarendon Dock, Belfast, for Northern Ireland data, Newlyn in Cornwall for data in Great Britain and Portmoor Pier, Malin Head, for data relating to the Republic of Ireland). They were used as part of a greater surveying network by the UK Ordnance Survey, Ordnance Survey Northern Ireland (OSNI) and the Ordnance Survey Ireland (OSI). If the exact height of one bench mark is known then the exact height of the next can be found by measuring the difference in heights, through a process of spirit levelling. In this way hundreds of thousands of bench marks were sited all around the UK & Ireland from the mid 19th to late 20th centuries.

This is a trading cache...
You don't have to trade, but if you do, trade up or equal value. Trading down is unfair to others. (A packet of elastic bands is no substitute for a ruby pendant!)
Geocoins and Travel Bugs are not trade items and can be left or taken as you wish. Please log the cache inventory when you record your find on geocaching.com so we can see how the cache is doing!!
Some may regonise this cache by its contents from its previous location. Which was orginally placed by DodgerM on 14th April 2010 at a different location.
When placed the cache contains the usual notepad and pencil plus the following new items of varying value:
- Easter Bunny
- Spinning Top
- Interschool Hockey Medal
- Clock
- Halloween Tea Tree Candle
- Poker Chip
- Calculator
- Watch & Note via Inquiziter
I'll inventory the cache occasionally and see it's growing or decreasing in value.
