Cache: Ria Formosa - Luz de Tavira

Zona húmida de importância internacional, a Ria Formosa é um labirinto de canais, ilhas, sapais e bancos de areia, que se estende ao longo de 60 kms do litoral algarvio, entre as Praias do Garrão e da Manta Rota.

Esta diversidade de ecossistemas atrai uma fauna variada que inclui numerosas espécies de aves como a galinha-sultana, símbolo do Parque Natural. Se quiser admirar esta ave de plumagem vistosa e saber tudo sobre a área protegida, comece a sua visita pelo Centro de Educação Ambiental de Marim, que lhe indicará os trilhos pedestres mais apropriados e os observatórios onde se pode esconder para apreciar o dia-a-dia das várias espécies. O Parque organiza também passeios numa barca tradicional antigamente utilizada na pesca do atum.

Uma das espécies mais simpáticas que aqui pode encontrar, é o cão de água português. Trata-se de uma raça de cães de pelo comprido, que ajudavam os pescadores na sua faina, mergulhando e apanhando o peixe que ficava preso nas redes.

Além da pesca, a extração de sal e a apanha de moluscos e bivalves são as atividades tradicionais das populações da Ria que, com sabedoria e arte, criaram deliciosas especialidades gastronómicas, como a sopa de peixe ou o arroz de lingueirão, que poderá saborear tranquilamente nos restaurantes à beira-mar.

Quem gosta de sol e mar, encontra nas ilhas da Ria Formosa verdadeiros paraísos. De oeste para leste, sucedem-se as Ilhas de Faro, da Barreta, da Culatra, da Armona e de Tavira, com extensos areais pouco frequentados.
