The Karoo means differeny things to different people .
To some it refers to a geological system, botanists find it the interesting environment of a variety of hardy shrubs, for the farmers who made a lot of money out of the boom in the wool industry, the Karoo comprises a number of regions - the Ceres Karoo, the Tanqua Karoo, the Roggerveld Karoo, the Moordenaar's Karoo and the Gouph or Koup.
Some say simply that the Great Karoo is a state of mind.
Its essence is a combination of them all.
