LLL: RAF Spilsby Frying Pan
The concrete you are now stood on is what is left of one of several Frying Pan's. The standard early war dispersals were approximately 125 feet diameter frying pans, however, by 1942 the Spectacle Type had become the standard, typically installed as a foursome, two on each side of a taxi track. Improved marshalling then allowed for 45 aircraft of 102-foot wing span (Lancaster) to be routed at intervals to the main runway.
