Totally Findable Tourist Caches

Welcome to Sydney

This series of geocaches is designed primarily with visitors to Sydney in mind who may have limited time and transport options and want a quick and easy find while out enjoying some sightseeing around this beautiful city.

All cache containers will be one of three types; a flat magnetic key case (MKC), a round film canister (FC or MFC for magnetic) or a fake rock (FR).

The hint will indicate the type of container used and will be very specific to help you find the cache easily. If you want a challenge to find this cache and don't wish to know exactly where it's hidden, do not look at the hint.

At each location you’ll be given some information about the site you are visiting.

Enjoy!

Don Ritchie OAM

The Gap is a well known place for suicides. In 2006, Don Ritchie, a former Second World War Navy veteran (who witnessed the unconditional surrender of the Japanese Imperial Forces in Tokyo Bay on 2 September 1945, officially ending World War II in the Pacific) and retired insurance salesman, was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for preventing suicides at The Gap.

From 1964, Don Ritchie saved over 160 people from jumping from the cliffs by crossing the road from his property and engaging them in conversation, often beginning with the words, "Can I help you in some way?" Afterwards Ritchie would invite them back to his home for a cup of tea and a chat. Some would return years later to thank him for his efforts in talking them out of their decision. Don Ritchie, who was nicknamed the "Angel of The Gap", passed away in May 2012 surrounded by his family.
