Depending on the time of day and where you entered the park, you might wonder what is causing all the noise after the peace and quiet of other areas. This is a Council Recycling Centre which is located on the site of the former Craigmillar Quarry. Sandstone from this quarry was used for the construction of Craigmillar Castle in the 14th Century and Craigmillar Stone has been used at many other sites in Edinburgh.
