The Cape Buffalo, or African Buffalo, is indegenous to South and East Africa.
Horns are its characteristic feature: they have fused bases, forming a continuous bone shield across the top of the head called a "boss".
The Cape Buffalo is one of the "Big Five" game and it seen as one of the most dangerous animals on the African continent.
The animals are extremely social and live in herds of anywhere from 50 to 1,000 members.
Cape Buffalo are fiercely protective of their herd and often exhibit "mobbing" behavior, where the stronger members of the herd will surround the weaker members in a circle when threatened in order to protect them.
