This was probably the most nondescript part of the nondescript Xinhepu Canal before the major upgrade project implemented in 2020 and opened in mid-2021 in time for the centenary celebrations of the the Chinese Communist Party. Further to the east along the canal, closer to the trendy Donghsan Kou area, the roadway narrows to one lane with a bike lane, with walkway widening and some road narrowing adding to the pedestrian-oriented appeal. In this section, it's still two-lane one-way traffic, and the low-value car-repair workshops are still in relatively early stages of getting pushed out in favour of more positive and useful land uses.
