The cache is small, but the treasure is big - tell us how you knew Lyle Lavis (if you did).
July 5, 2021 is the day we created this cache. I teamed up with egiahmad, avawilliams06 and Michael to create a cache in Mile 84 in honor of what would have been our dad/grandpa's 79th birthday. Lyle was born and raised in Flin Flon. The Lavis's were one of many noteable Mile 84 families. Today Mile 84 looks nothing like Lyle's carefree childhood days where numerous children ran free running and playing on the rocks or along the shore of Ross Lake. Dad had many stories to tell about the area including: the old sawmill his dad had up behind what is now the sewage treatment plant, nearly drowning in Ross Lake as he crossed the creek to get to one of the many uptown schools (since it was a short cut) or having to pick quarts of blueberries for his mom Christina before he was allowed to play. Dad certainly enjoyed sharing the history of the area.
We were amazed to discover that where this cache is hidden is actually reminant of the large potatoe garden Jack Lavis had. Hills and hills of potatoes once covered this whole stretch of Boundary Avenue surrounded by delicious red rhubarb. Towards the creek is reminants of the old walking path the kids used to cut down to get onto the tracks. Take a moment to imagine what life would have been like 70 years ago in a booming Flin Flon. Also think about how you are standing on the Saskatchewan/Manitoba border "Boundary Avenue".
