Built in 1840 by Thomas Warner, this building was originally a hotel and stopping place for stage coaches and travels to & from the Port of Nyack. It was considered a center of social life around the time of the Civil War. It was owned by Charles Oblenis and the street cross-section was known as Oblenis Corners. Charles served in the Civil War and served as Captain around 1861. The Oblenis family has been in the West Nyack area for over 200 years. Some of the earliest Dutch settlers are buried in the Clarkstown Reformed Church cemetery on Germonds Road.
This cache, along with others in West Nyack, is part of my Girl Scout Gold Award Project. The goal of my project is to encourage people of all ages to get outdoors, explore and learn some local history. I very much hope you enjoy my caches and help to teach others this activity that I love so much.
This cache has been planted with permission from the current owners of the Clarksville building.
