This is a letterbox hybrid cache. For those who don't know, letterboxing is a treasure hunting game similar to geocaching, only instead of coordinates you have written clues, and each box contains a carved rubber stamp. Letterboxers stamp the box stamp into their personal journal, and "sign the logbook" with a personal stamp of their own. I've been geocaching for a long time, but I've been letterboxing even longer. Give it a try sometime!
Please do not remove the stamp from the cache.Â
London Town, Maryland was once a prosperous colonial seaport in the 17th and 18th centuries. Today, part of the town has been preserved and reconstructed as a museum. The "ugly mermaid", as it is affectionately known by museum staff, is a design that was found on 18th-century plates used in the town's taverns. You can view the original mermaid plate in the Visitor's Center.Â
The cache is located just outside the museum gate. No admission is needed to find this cache, and it is available at all times, even when the museum is closed.
The museum does charge admission for those who wish to visit the grounds. For admission information and hours, visit historiclondontown.org
