Geocache Description:

This cache has been relocated from the bench to across the street near the top of Symonds Street, a formidable hill like most in town. During a snowy winter most vehicles cannot get up the hill and it is turned over to the local kids to use it as an impressive sled and tobaggan run. As a kid in the 60s, we lived on what was then called 2nd Avenue extension and Symonds was just down the street. With no helmets or any other safety gear in hand, we would hike up to 3rd Avenue with our sleds and careen down the hill, bailing out at the bottom at the Aggie Hall before crossing 1st Ave. On particularly busy days, the city would close off the bottom of the street - no roundabout in those days! I also think that the winters were colder and we had more snow back then. Global warming was not yet a thing. And I don't have any pictures of our sledding outings so feel free to post any in the logs if you have them. From what I understand, kids today still sled down Symonds when there is enough snowfall.

There is limited parking along 3rd avenue and it may be easier to access it from the north side of Symonds behind the barrier. If you want to enjoy the Harbour views when signing the log, take a seat at the bench across the street, but be careful when crossing the street - the cars can come down the hill pretty fast.
