This Cache
The cache is tied to a nail so please don't untie it. It is tucked away and needs to be teased out of its hiding spot. Just yanking on the wire will likely break it and loose the cache forever. Tweezers or something similar might be a help given the container is fixed in place.
Red Cap Series
The logical launching point is from Annagassan. This area is subject to tides and if the tide is falling it will be a challenge to pass under the bridge a short distance from the launch point.
The caches in the series are all black 10cm tubes with a red cap. They were placed using sit on Kayaks. I do not recommend inflatable kayaks as some of the placements are not friendly to that type of craft but most shouldnt cause too many problems. Any other type of craft is at the finders discretion and at their own risk.
If you can't find it please log the DNF and I will check. I live locally so maintenance should not be a problem
Safety (mostly kayaking based)
- Be competent in the use of whatever craft you use.
- Wear a personal life jacket or buoyancy aid. The canoe should be sufficiently bouyant to remain afloat if you capsize
- It is recommended not to canoe alone
- A canoe may be difficult to see from a larger craft so carry a whistle
- You do not need to be able to swim a long distance but you should have sufficient water confidence to deal with a capsized boat and get ashore safely
- Carry water and snacks.
- Wear adequate clothing, prolonged immersion in cold water leads to hypothermia, sun even in Ireland can burn quickly on a good day.
- Leave details of your journey with a responsible adult
