This cache is not located at the posted coordinates. Rather, they are where to start the Adventure Lab of this cache's namesake.
February 24, 2023 update - the cache location has been adjusted slightly. If you completed the adventure lab before this date, check back in the app for the new coordinates.
Currie Barracks, a community situated on the former land of Canada Forces Base (CFB) Currie, is full of monuments and historical references to Calgary's military history in the early 20th century. This is a bonus cache that can only be found upon completion of the "Currie Barracks Military History Tour" Adventure Lab. Unlike the sister caches in Garrison Woods and Garrison Green, this cache has no puzzle! The coordinates will simply be handed to you upon completing the ordered 5-stage Adventure Lab.
I chose to do this for a couple reasons. First, from feedback on my last two adventures, I didn't feel like being mean the third time around. And more importantly, the community is still under construction. There are some markers at prominent street corners, just like the other two communities, but some are temporarily missing and others may be erected once the community is finished. So, I decided to not make a puzzle out of them again. You are welcome to explore more of the community and read up on the history behind the street names.
I highly encourage parking near the posted coordinates on Valour Circle as there is free 2 hour parking; the rest of the neighbourhood has limited legal parking spots, as most of it is by permit only. You might find that moving your car may speed up the route slightly, but I once again recommend walking the entire route if you have the time and are able. The adventure lab is set up to be done in a certain order and I have tried to make the route friendly to walk.
At a moderately brisk walking pace, it took me about 35 minutes to walk the route round trip; with a little extra time to answer the questions, and some time searching at the final, expect to spend about 1 hour from the start of the adventure to finding this bonus cache. There is also construction forcing a detour at present, so this could be cut down slightly once the airport park re-opens. Please try not to spoil the final location or its proximity to other recognizable locations during your tour. I recommend putting the coordinates into the GPS before heading back to the car.
The final is a micro near a potentially busy greenspace, containing just a logbook. Stealth may be required here at most times during the day. There is decent cover from nearby muggles and buildings when this cache was placed, but who knows how close future development will approach GZ. Please replace exactly as found. The hints are minimal to keep the difficulty up and reduce location spoilers. You can always message me for another hint if you've searched for quite a while and need a little help.
Congratulations to WhyWhySee and mountainscape for the well-earned FTF, after being the guinea pigs to play the adventure only to discover the cache was missing. Big thanks for replacing the cache on my behalf.
The information for this Adventure Lab came from the associated plaques and some of my own research, but this is not my area of expertise at all; please feel free to send me a message if you notice an error in the Adventure Lab. I hope you enjoy the walk, the archetecture, and the history!
