This cache is placed across the road from one of the entrances to Craigmillar Castle Park, which is a gateway leading to Lady Susan's Walk. Please take the time to go along this walk, which is straight ahead through the gate and then along an avenue of yew, cherry and maple trees. Yew trees were used for making longbows, since the heartwood (from the centre of the tree) is very strong and was used to make the inside of the bow. The sapwood (found just under the centre of the bark) is on the outside of the bow as it is elastic and allows the bow to stretch. I originally placed a cache at the waypoint, which is a large den imaginatively made out of yew trees. This was not allowed since the whole eastern side of the Park is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, not just the Castle. This eastern side has many paths through mature woodland and grassland with lots of wildlife and good views and is very peaceful, so well worth walking through.
Congratulations to Dearvid for a quick FTF.
