Geocache Description:

!!THIS IS A LOW CELL SERVICE AREA. FOR THAT REASON, DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO FIND THE CACHE ARE BELOW. IT IS RECOMMENDED TO DOWNLOAD THE CACHE AND THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE VISITING!!

TARRYALL FALLS

Tarryall Falls cascades and sprays straight out of Tarryall Reservoir 40 feet until collecting into still, cool waters at the end of Potato Gulch. (Taken October 2021, originally hidden July 2021).

Located inside Tarryall Reservoir State Wildlife Area,Tarryall Falls is a "semi-official" (these waterfall terms are starting to confuse me...) waterfall located on Potato Gulch, draining straight out of Tarryall Reservoir in an impressive collection of twisting horsetails and rocky leaps. This one is mentioned on some maps, but is not on any official USGS maps as a falls. Based on my knowledge, the falls was here before the creation of the reservoir, meaning it met the criteria for me placing a cache here for the series!

This one is also unique because it shares the same name with Tarryall, the most well-known cache in Colorado! It was placed on July 2, 2000 and is 20 minutes down Tarryall Road. It has the code GC18, and was one of the first official geocaches ever placed. When this cache was placed it has had over 1,200 favorite points and it just celebrated its 21st birthday! This one is a great stop for those making the pilgrimidge out to the cache as it is right off of the road heading from Jefferson to Tarryall.

This cache is placed *just* outside of the boundary (checked with GPSr) of Tarryall Reservoir State Wildlife Area. Because of this, please obey any State Wildlife Area guidelines and rules to keep this cache active! Plus, it helps protect our public lands, which I think are pretty cool! This area does not require any fee, though you will need to hold a valid hunting/fishing liscence if you are over the age of 16.

As always, there is a catch with these Waterfalls Series caches (difficulty wise!) BRING BUG SPRAY!! Yeah... I made that mistake and now, as of writing this, am dealing with thirty-two (32!!) mosquito bites after being in the area for 15 minutes. Not that I'm counting any numbers here, of course. They love the still waters of Tarryall Creek in this hot and dry area. So please do yourself a favor and bring some if you want to inspect the falls closer. Seriously. For your own sake.

But don't let that fool you! It is an amazing place with beautiful rock formations, a great reservoir for all kinds of activities, and a stunning landscape that looks straight out of a postcard. Definitely a must-do on Tarryall Road!

Anyways, here's how to find the cache:

HOW TO FIND:

Head out of the parking area and on to Turner Gulch Rd. You should be able to see this tree on the hillside with a bunch of rocks underneath. The cache is hidden here!

Taryall Falls from up above at the cache's location. You are looking for an ammo can hidden in a wedge between the rocks below this tree. Have fun!

This is one of the CO Waterfall Series caches, inspired by worldwaterfalldatabase.com and Marc Conly, author of Waterfalls of Colorado. Other caches in this series can be found here!
