This is the bonus for my Adventure Lab cache which covers the 7th - 10th Tintin Caches in my series. Please go to the waypoint, which is the entrance to the grounds.
This location is inspired by the Haddock ancestral home of Marlinspike Hall. This location is obviously not Marlinspike Hall, but it is (or was) Michaelstowe Hall, so it's close enough.
It was recorded in the Domesday Book and for nearly 200 years (1750-1920), it was occupied by the Garland family. It was sold in 1920 to a business man and was purchased in 1938 by Essex County Council. It was used as a convalescent home, then requisitioned by the Admiralty in WWII and then turned into an Approved School. It is now a care home for the elderly, renamed Ramsey Manor.
Tintin and Calculus discover that Marlinspike Hall was given to Sir Francis Haddock by Charles II and the house is up for sale! The house is bought back and Haddock is able to return to his rightful home. Marlinspike is a location which features in several other books, along with Nestor, the long suffering Butler. This is the entrance to quite a secluded location. I didn't find a view.
