This 2 stage short multi brings you to a pristine, safe urban park which had a place in history
Battery Park is one of the gateways to the V&A Waterfront. It integrates Cape Town’s CBD and the Waterfront through a series of pedestrian routes, including one alongside the canal which, with its wide walkways, shops and coffee bars has a peaceful, modern inner city feel. Visitors to the park can engage in a range of outdoor recreation activities in various levels of public spaces like skateboarding, rollerblading, basketball, outdoor gym, stand up paddling, kayaking and swimming
The area is the location of one of the city’s oldest structures: the Amsterdam Battery built by the Dutch between 1784 and 1787 to defend the harbour and Table Bay after war was declared against the British. The presence of the Amsterdam Battery with its 22 big cannons was one of the reasons for the 1806 British invasion landing at Blaauwberg out of its range.
Because the park is a popular muggle zone with cameras and security guards ever present, a traditional cache here would be problematic. The container is therefore hidden at a more secluded location nearby
The park is open from dawn to dusk and entrance is free.
At the posted co-ordinates you can see two of the cannons from the original fort close up
