Geocache Description:


In the middle of the 7th century, an Arab village called Isdod was formed in the vicinity of Tel Ashdod

The village continued to exist until the Ottoman period and then developed into a small town with a khan (hostel)

The khan was used for lodging, and resting of pilgrims and merchants who passed near the village. In addition, it served as a road tax collection station.

 

באמצע המאה ה־7, התהווה בסביבת תל אשדוד כפר ערבי בשם איסדוד

הכפר המשיך להתקיים עד לתקופה העות'מנית ואז התפתח לעיירה ובה ח'אן (אכסנייה)

הח'אן שימש ללינה, ומנוחה של עולי רגל וסוחרים שעברו בסמוך לכפר. בנוסף שימש כתחנה לגביית מס דרכים.
