Geocache Description:

Is it a folly or no!!!!

This is one of my pot caches
Now whilst doing some rooting around for this cache I am now more confused than when I started. Rothley castle stands above Rothley crags, south west of Rothley Hall.
North of the castle is Codger Fort which is known to be a folly. The info I have says that the ruined castle to the south (this cache) is the real Rothley Castle and was once a 14th cent Pele Tower. The stone work I have seen bares no resemblance to a ruined Pele tower at all, and even on an OS map it isn't shown as such.
Anyways I digress The area is open access and can be approached from just about any direction, although if you leave by heading straight down hill, the first step of the stone style over the wall is very high. Made friends with a Kestrel on way up so if yer see it say Hi from me :)
Enjoy the walk, the views are good on a clear day and the bracken is dying back.
If you walk to the edge of the crag be careful, its a canny drop, but look for the carved names etc. especially J.H. Rothley 1850, very professional job fer a pen knife !!!
