US-20 Rest Area - Back Lot Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Starkacher: After being prompted by a message from a geofriend that was passing by tonight, I took the time to look into the county's property records and determined that the Rest Area property was sold from ODOT to a neighboring property owner late last year and that rest area property is no longer public property. I am glad I removed the physical container a couple of months ago (although I may have been unknowingly trespassing at the time). I will keep an eye on the property and if it seems likely as a host of a new geocache (very unlikely), I may approach the new owner for permission.

Geocache Description:

Welcome to the US-20 Rest Area!   This is one of the four Rest Areas operated by ODOT District 2 (out of Bowling Green).   The others are the two on I-75 just south of Bowling Green and the one on US Route 2 near Camp Perry west of Port Clinton.  The Service Plazas on the Turnpike are operated by the Turnpike Commission.    With this hide, I now have a cache in 3 of the 4 ODOT Rest Areas.   This Rest Area has a picnic table and picnic shelter and a paved path around a small hill.  How there is a hill here in the flat part of NW Ohio is not known.    There used to be "modern" vault-type toilets here, but they have been closed/locked for more than 10 years.    You can still see the building in the SW corner of the Rest Area.     They DO NOT have any portable toilets here either, so if you need to go..... well, what do they say about bears......

There used to be a previous cache here that I found in my early caching days, but it has been archived for many years.     Every time I pass by here, I thought I should put another cache here for people to find.   Well, I thought I should do it before this year's Midwest Geobash (next week).     So I stopped by and found a great spot for a regular sized cache.

There is minimal bushwacking if you take the paved path on the east side of the hill to the paved path heading east near the back of the grounds.
