Geocache Description:

Bodkin Cemetery is located at the intersection of Lincoln Trail Road and CR 1OO E. I was unable to find the exact date it was established, but the earliest burial date I could find was around 1840. This being discovered verifies the question of its existence during the time Lincoln would have traveled this road on his route from Springfield to Danville on the circuit of the Eighth Judicial District (1847-1857) prior to his presidency beginning in 1861.

Just about a mile and half further east down Lincoln Trail Road you will see a large white farm house on the north side of the road with a large historical marker in the front yard. This was the home of Lincoln's friend John R. Thompson. It is said that Lincoln would stop here during his travels. Mr. Thompson is buried in Bodkin Cemetery where this geocache is located.

If you continue down this road another (guessing) 6 miles or so you will come across a bridge named Lincoln Trail Bridge that crosses Stony Creek. There is a marker there that states Lincoln forded Stony Creek at this spot. Neither this new truss bridge nor its predecessor existed at that time.

Please respect typical cemetery rules and do not enter the cemetery at night.
