Geocache Description:

This series will take you to pieces of artwork, sculptures, murals or down right goofy things that I thought would be fun for people to take their pictures with.  I find that even though going to meet and greet events, that it is still hard to put faces to cacher names and thought that through these "selfies”, it would be a great way to get to know others in this hobby.  While a photo is not required, it would make this old rum addled barnacle encrusted octopus fart, a happy fellow if you included one.

This cache is placed with a bit of sadness because it is a tribute to John Prine who passed away in 2020 due to complications with Covid. These are words of his and feel like they are needed more than ever at this point in life. I regularly get to see this mural and want to share it with others in my small way.

One of the most celebrated singer/songwriters of his generation, John Prine was a master storyteller whose work was often witty and always heartfelt, frequently offering a sly but sincere reflection of his Midwestern roots, writing about the lives of ordinary people in a remarkable and perceptive way. While Prine’s songs were most often rooted in folk and country flavors, he was no stranger to rock & roll, R&B, and rockabilly, and could readily adapt his rough but expressive voice to his musical surroundings. Prine never scored a major hit of his own, but his songs were recorded by a long list of well-respected artists, many of them celebrated songwriters themselves, including  Johnny Cash, Bonnie Raitt, Kris Kristofferson, George Strait, Bette Midler, Paul Westerberg and Dwight Yoakam.

You don’t have to leave the sidewalk for this one, but it is a bit of a stretch.  If you are vertically challenged, just admit that in your log and don’t worry about signing the log.  This one was a bit of a stretch for me too.  Enjoy and as always, suggestions for other locations or feedback is appreciated.
