While you may often hear geocachers say that it is not all about the numbers, the sport of baseball definitely IS all about the numbers.  These days records are kept on just about every possible activity you can do in baseball -- batting average, RBI, homeruns, triples, doubles, double plays, ERA, pitch count, strike outs, walks, errors, and so many other statistics, including attendance!

There are also some numbers that are such an integral part of the game that they are obvious to anyone who knows even a little bit about baseball.  So give this numerical quiz a try and you may just end up scoring some winning coordinates.  Note that there are some rarely-seen occurrences that can cause alternate answers for some of the questions, such as interference or base-running blunders, but for the purposes of this quiz, disregard any oddball exceptions and use the obvious answer to each question and you should come out a winner.

A = The number of pieces of cowhide that are stitched together to cover a single Major League baseball

B = The number of runs that score when a batter hits a grand slam

C = The number of bases the batter is awarded when a batted ball hits the ground in fair territory and then bounces over a wall out of play

D = The number of sides that home plate has (Sides refers to the edges, not the top and bottom.)

E = The number of players that make up a team’s “battery” on any given play

F = The number of bases a runner on base is awarded when a pitcher is called for a balk

G = The minimum number of pitches that must be made by a team’s pitcher to complete an entire inning

H = The maximum number of pitches a batter can take if he never swings at a single pitch, and each pitch is caught cleanly by the catcher

J = The number of times the Cleveland Indians have won the World Series

Use your numbers to calculate the final coordinates as follows:

N 41° 2 (E+J). (A-F) (C+D) (F+H)  W 081° 3 (A+H).(D+G) (B+F) (H+J)
