Traces of "Balkantourist" 01

The Windmill

During the socialist regime the whole economic sector of tourism had been run and managed by the state. For that reason the State Economic Enterprise (DSP, later State Economic Union - DSO) "Balkantourist" had been created. The enormous enterprise had been central-led according to the governmental plans. That period had its pros and cons, but one thing is for sure - it left remarkable traces as a matter of monuments and in the memories of the people.

These few caches are kind of an attempt to acquaint you with some interesting physical locations, in order to imagine the life back then and sense the spirit of the epoch.

The first one of the series is dedicated to (and hidden at) a former theme restaurant - "the Windmill". Honestly, I didn't manage to find any information about its building and opening, but it's visible on many postcards from the 1970's and 80'es.

The Windmill had been working quite a few years after the fall of the communist regime and Balkantourist era. It has even made it to a facebook-page :) Anyway, the marvelous view is now long gone, but one might still feel the emotions that were burning generations ago.
