Ok here we go. Ignore all the above UTM/Lat Long information it will only tell you that this cache is somewhere in British Columbia Canada.
This Geocache is in WGS 84, using the GRS 80 Ellipsoid. All compass bearings that we use in these caches are always based on “True North” rather than “Magnetic”. The first part of this cache presumes the world is round, the second part will presume it’s flat.
Our starting point is a benchmark near the Stovepipe Wells Hotel in Death Valley California at UTM position Zone 11s E 486835 N 4051218 (determined by a Trimble Pro XRS and Omnistar satellite differential). From the Stovepipe Wells benchmark go 758.319274 nautical miles at 340 degrees 52 minutes 50.1116 seconds True North.
Accuracy at the Stovepipe Wells benchmark is + or – ½ a meter. Accuracy at the destination point has been surveyed to approximately 1/1000 of a meter. The destination point is a surveyed benchmark. Once you’ve reached this benchmark, which you’ve done presuming a round world, we’ll be very kind and presume the world is flat, where everything runs true North South and East West.
So from the surveyed benchmark you’ve determined, to get to the Geocache (presuming a flat world) go 11661.398 meters East and 156637.297 meters North.
The Geocache is under a very large rock with moss growing all over it slightly up a bank. The cache has $25.00 cash and many other items. By the way what is the benchmark number you determined?
