Have you ever wanted to see your finds turn into a giant Smiley?
Well, here is your chance.
This Is the new Oregons Largest Smiley. The smiley is located just off of China Hat Road. This cache series was the dream of Norman (team triple threat) which he modeled after one by Rhino (GC1JEWR) and with the help of lost-a-pair they placed all the caches and got it up and running. So as a memorial to Norman who passed away last November (2020) and was one of our beloved fellow geocachers I am redoing this series for future cachers to enjoy as Norman watches over the smiley with a big smile.
This is the Bonus cache, to find it you must visit all 24 of the puzzle caches and get the number from each cache. They are Etched into each container, there is a metal tag and it is printed on the log. Half of them are N XXXX numbers and Half of them are W XXX numbers (note that all N numbers are 4 numbers and all W numbers are 3 numbers). Then when you have all 12 N numbers and 12 W numbers you have to figure out what to do with them to find the bonus. If you did the Original Smiley you will know what to do but they are different numbers. Don't forget to keep track of the numbers, a pencil and paper would be helpful and since most of us have a cell phone a picture might help as well. All 24 of the puzzle caches in this series are tree hangers that are log only and this bonus cache is an ammo can filled with swag and starts off with a brand new activated Smiley can opener Trackable to move along.
Also you can enjoy this smiley two ways. If you park close to the 1st cache you come to after finishing all the puzzles then you can hike all the finals down a nice easy to walk path that winds threw the forest (the road) for around a 5-6 mile hike to the end and back or you can drive close to each of the finals. Your choice.
To get to the Smiley head South on the China Hat road from Bend and turn west on the 1820 rd. by GC9E9GB Turn here for a Big smiley, and it will take you to the smiley. The road has a couple rough spots but I made it just fine with our mini-van.
