The Staircase Range was so named for a sandstone escarpment in the form of a staircase.
The cache is located at the site of a cutting which was part of an old wagon road in 1905. It was part of the road used to transport goods from Rockampton to the north and the west.
The cutting was carved by Chinese labourers using only hand tools. As you walk through the cutting you will be able to see the marks made by some of these tools in the sandstone.
Free camping and picnic tables at the parking nearby. Dry weather access only. High clearance vehicle recommended, although if in a smaller vehicle you could park closer to the highway and walk in.
Please check local fire restrictions before lighting any fires.
