I’ve had this idea for an event series for a long time but I thought it was best to get it started less than a week after finishing the Mega event I’ve been involved with for the last two years! 

Simon Goes Stargazing 002 - Perseids meteor shower

I have been a keen astronomer for over 10 years (a lot from someone only 21), with one of my favourite aspects of the night sky being the occasional glance of a meteor (shooting star) streaking through the black. August brings with it the Perseids meteor shower which, at its peak, can produce up to 100 meteors per hour.

To see a meteor for yourself, all you need is a dark clear sky and your naked eyes, open as wide as you can to take in as much of the sky as possible. It's also best to lay down so perhaps a blanket to keep off the grass. It can get chilly so bring plenty of layers, and a snack or two too!

I will be onside from 22:00 with a logbook for cachers to sign if they wish and, weather depending, will stay out as long I can. I will keep an eye on the weather, but if it turns out cloudy, it’ll be a short, late-night social lasting just ½ an hour.

When arriving on-site, please keep lights of all kinds to a minimum to preserve your night vision as well as the others around you, hopefully, there should be enough space for all to lay down and enjoy the show.

I will be in a hi-viz with (probably) a stick with an event icon attached, please bear in mind that there may be muggles joining that are here for the shower more than the caching.
