The Republic Square (together with Wieringermeer Square) and Bath Street starting from there are the heart of Cserkeszőlő. The square is home to the village's two churches – Roman Catholic and Reformed – the mayor's office, the largest grocery store, the post office, the kindergarten and the playground.

Formerly the village was a part of Tiszakürt, but it became independent on 1 January 1952 – an event commemorated by the Monument of Independence in the centre of the square. The candelabras around the statue are donated by the inhabitants of the village, one of them was donated by my grandparents.

Cserkeszőlő központja a (Wieringermeer térrel egybefüggő) Köztársaság tér és az onnan induló Fürdő utca. A téren található a falu két – római katolikus és református – temploma, polgármesteri hivatala, legnagyobb élelmiszerboltja, postája, óvodája és játszótere.

A falu eredetileg Tiszakürt községhez tartozott, 1952. január 1-jén önállósodott – ennek állít emléket a tér közepén található Önállósági emlékmű. A szobor körül a helység lakói által adományozott kandeláberek állnak, melyek közül egyet nagyszüleim adományoztak a közösségnek.
