Geocache Description:

13 August 2021, 18:30 - 19:00

Historically, Friday the 13th has been considered an unlucky day. Many people feel that the day is unlucky and they may be right. Here are some events in history that occurred on Friday the 13th:

  • September 13, 1940:  Buckingham Palace was bombed by the Nazis
  • July 13, 1951:  The state of Kansas was hit with over 25 inches of rain which led to massive flooding
  • November 13, 1970: a deadly cyclone hit Bangladesh and killed at least 300,000 people
  • October 13, 1972:  A plane crash in the Andes Mountains leaves 27 survivors stranded without food.  They eventually had to resort to eating the bodies of other passengers that had died.  (this became the basis for the 1993 movie "Alive"
  • September 13, 1996: Tupac Shakur died of gunshot wounds from a drive-by shooting
  • October 13, 2006: - Freak blizzard hits Buffalo, New York and drops 24 inches of snow on the town.  Residents of Buffalo are used to blizzards...but not in the middle of October!
  • January 16, 2012: A cruise ship capsizes off the coast of Tuscan causing all passengers to be evacuated.  32 people died in the incident.

Are these just mere coincidences?  Or is this day actually unlucky?  We may never know.  Well, if you are brave enough to venture out on Friday the 13th, then let's get together and cool off with some snow cones.  Hopefully the worst thing that happens will be a mild case of brain freeze!
