Geocache Description:

Cache is not at the published location - but you need to go here to get the co-ordinates for the final.

Many treasure maps have you following the instructions to reach the X where the gold is hidden.... this time you need to work back from the X marks the spot on where the gold was found to find the cache.

To find this cache;

You will need to do a projection from these co-ordinates. There are a number of free apps and websites you can use (search project co-ordinates) to help you complete this. There should be good phone signal out in this area to get online if you have not already solved the co-ordinates before heading out this way.

*Put in the posted co-ordinates S 44° 56.250 E 168° 49.897 into the top line.
*Then the angle (which is referred to as bearing) -  ABC.D (1 decimal places)
*Then the distance -  WXY.Zm (1 decimal places)
*hit calculate button and you will get co-ords.

The numbers for the angle and distance can be found at the listed co-ordinates;

On the brass plaque in ground;

A = Number of letters in first word.

B = The second digit on the year on when the capsule is to be opened.

C = commemorating 1C0 years.

D = The number of lines minus one.

Now look up at the x marks the spot sign;

W = How many words are in the fifth line.

Turn 180 degrees and you will see a lampost about 3m away with a four digit black marker facing you;

X = What is the first (top) digit?

Y = What is the third digit?

Finally back to the x marks the spot sign;

Z = There is a single date on the sign, second digit minus first digit.

The cache is a short walk from here and you can reach it via formal paths/ wide tracks, no need to go cross country.

Please note whilst some caches have pens placed in them, all cachers should bring their own. Photo logs are not acceptable substitutes and these logs will be deleted.
